WHO IS NORSE GOD NJORD?

He is the God of the Sea and hidden treasures.

Njord is one of the Vanir Gods who attacked Asgard during the Asgard/Vanir wars. He buried his ax deeply into the gates of Asgard. Njord was the first Vanir god into the battle.

Njord could be compared to Neptune.

Njord is the husband of Goddess Skadi, Queen of the Snow and Hunting.

Njord is the father of the Vanir twins Frey and Freya.

Njord and his children joined the Aesir as Vanir hostages after the war.

HOW DID NJORD MEET SKADI?

The Aesir gods killed Skadi's father, the giant, Weland-Thjazi. Skadi skied all the way to Valhalla ro revenge her father. The Aesir gods agreed to repay her for his death.

She could choose any Aesir god she wanted for marriage. But she could only see their feet. She wanted Balder and she thought that this handsome god would have handsome feet.

But when she chose, it turned our to be Njord who had the handsome feet. Even the goddesses have to be careful on what they wish for.

NJORD AND SKADI'S MARRIAGE

The marriage did not last long. Skadi loved the mountains and did not want to go to the sea where Njord lived. Njord loved the sea and did not want to go to the mountains where Skadi lived.

They eventually separated.
